More beautiful goodies for silk paper making!!

Postie delivered a wondrous parcel...

...from Oliver Twists!!

Silk laps and some throwster's waste...

...in lovely rusty colours.

These photos definitely don't do justice to the rich colours...

...which are much deeper than they look on my computer screen!

I shall be laying some out for more silk paper later on, so that it can dry overnight.

Tomorrow I shall go in with machine stitching - copper metallic I think....

....then...

...magical things will happen!! :-D

I'm going downstairs for a while now because it stinks up here...

...nasty, but necessary varnish smells. Ugh!

Happy Thursday folks

Another Japanese-inspired piece on the go...

I've used a stencil with Markal Paintstiks again...

...and will now get on with the white stitching.

Whether I'll leave it white...

...or colour it with alcohol markers...

...I don't quite know yet.

There are quite a few things that "I don't know yet"...

I seem to be having a bit of a "New Year" crisis half way through January!

There are things that I definitely want to do...

...other things that I (probably) don't...

...and with other things in a state of flux...well who knows.

I just feel a bit "adrift" right now.

Work and sampling carries on without being affected (mostly)...

...but the future is a wee bitty "unclear".

I am SO glad that I have all my creative stuff to keep me grounded...

...otherwise I may have been getting somewhat down methinks.

Have a good Wednesday lovely people.

...and another two!!

I excavated a bit more...

...and found some other colours of silk noil...

...along with some throwster's waste...

...and Angelina fibres.

So...

...the gloop was out again...

...and, after drying overnight...

...the machining was done and I have another two sheets to press into action.

One is the colour of Fire...

...the other of Ice.

I have ordered some lovely rusty bits from Oliver Twists...

...so when they get here the gloop shall be out once more!!

Have a great weekend folks

..adding a bit of sparkle...

...to the silk paper that I showed you yesterday.

I've used my favourite Empress Mills Metallic Machine thread...

...but not the usual "Antique Gold"...

...but M9961 "Black Gold".

It works perfectly....and is a dream to work with...especially if you don't want stripey lines in your face!

This one is more subtle and suits my purpose exactly today.

Simply wiggly running stitch with the stitch length set to 1.5.

Metallic thread through the needle AND in the bobbin.

NOTE

Because this thread is super fine I find that I have to be very careful when winding my bobbin. It winds on so tight that I've had a few bobbins "burst" apart because they couldn't take the pressure. Not the fault of the thread....but some plastic bobbins can be a bit "temperamental" shall we say. Just saying.....

ps.  I backed the silk paper with some Vilene Softline Superlight Iron-on to stabilise it before stitching.

It'll help later when I take a scissors to it as well!

After yards and yards and yards of stitching I've ended up with a beautiful surface to play with :-)

Now I'm off to the gloop jar again!

...something special...

...is being hatched around here...

I had a bit of an "excavation" in my workroom on the weekend...

...and dug up a few bags of "stuff" from Oliver Twists.

(They have a wonderful Etsy shop HERE.)

You know...

...all those luverly bits of gorgeous-ness we've bought from Jean (and Walter) over the years...

...telling ourselves that we will "do something with it someday"!!

Well...

...yesterday was "someday"...and I used some of the dyed silk noils...

...mixed up some gloop...

...and made some "silk paper"...

...for a VERY SPECIAL PROJECT!

Old Japanese Book Pages...#1

Some time back (probably about 3 years now) I bought an old Japanese book from an Etsy seller.

It wasn't particularly cheap...

...so, as ever...

...I fell into the habit of making it "precious".

I've picked it up so many times...

...turned the pages...

...stroked it (Yes! I admit to doing this!)

...and put it back carefully on the shelf, protected by a cellophane bag.

The paper is very fine...

...you can see the other side through it...

...and is printed with Japanese text and contains many woodblock-type prints...

Here's a taste for today...

It's a bit dog-eared...

....but delighrful...

...and I AM GOING TO USE IT!!!

Waterlilies finished

Yey!

Stitching done...

...but I didn't much like all the white...

...so...

...I coloured it with some Spectrum Noir pens!!

Ta Da!!

Could be the start of a new trend?

"Colour Your Stitching"

:-)

Now I can get on with the Sashiko patterns....
