Re-visiting...

It's been a very long time...

...since I did any amount of Crewel Embroidery...

...but...

...I have a need to re-visit this technique as it fits in with my "Medieval Mysteries" theme.

Yes, I know that folk often think of Crewelwork as a "Jacobean" thing...

...and, indeed, this lovely piece that I'm working on does fit firmly into that niche.

But, this kind of wool-work was done much, much earlier too...

...by the expert needle-women of the Anglo Saxon period...

..and it's that particular time that interests me right now...

...as I'm amassing a veritable pile of ideas and drawings.

Before launching myself back into this kind of stitching though...

...I decided to work a piece "under instruction" as it were.

So...

...I bought one of Sue Hawkins' beautiful kits...

... "Rosehips" from the Jacobean Berries series...

...and a start has been made :-)

Once this has piece has been finished, I'll feel more confident to tackle some of my own drawings.

It's never too late to learn...

...or re-learn...

...as long as you enjoy the process.

New "Pumpkin" work basket ready to go!

I've finished my new pumpkin-coloured crochet work basket!

It was a bit tough...

...as the jute twine has no give and, wanting it to be closely crocheted...

...I had to use as small a hook as possible thus making the twine hard to pull through.

But...

...I'm delighted with it...

...and the plastic one can now go into the recycling :-)

I've got another couple of balls of twine to use....

...the olive green one...

...and a Nutscene red one in a lovely tin with a hole in the top.

Will give my right arm a bit of a rest first though!! :-o

I did my very first "podcast" interview yesterday...

...with the lovely Susan Weeks of Stitchery Stories.

It will be broadcast next Wednesday the 18th October.

If you sign up to the Stitchery Stories Fan Club you'll have an email letting you know when each new podcast is ready to listen to....

...and there are quite a few already!

Happy Friday folks

A veritable feast of embellishment!!

I've been very busy...

...stitching and beading...

...around the edges of my block prints.

It's all very time consuming...

...but the end results are well worth the effort!

I have a few more pieces to go...

...then I have to do it all again in order to write it up as a project!

Oh! How I love my job :-D
